Isometric Pool training

leave a comment »

Tried something new today during pool side training.

Each paddlers pair up facing one another, one left rower, one right rower.

One paddler will hold a paddler in a paddles up position, outer shoulder rotated forward, upper arms above their head, stretching forward. Their partner will hold the end of the blade which is just above the water. When I said go, paddler will press down as hard as they could on the paddle for 2 seconds. Their partner will just hold on to the blade, providing resistence. The main aim of this exercise is to:

1. Improve and correct body posture.

2. Isolate and train the relevant muscles for the front drive.

3. Allow the rowers to be very conscious of their own body posture and their technique.
